My Testimony - Leslie Lau

Written by Leslie Lau.

Honestly, I can’t recall the time I began to believe in Jesus or when the Gospel really hit me for the first time. I was baptized as a baby into the Lutheran church and raised in the Lutheran church. Growing up, my parents and I rarely skipped church on Sunday, as my mom made it a priority for us to go. My mom and I often volunteered at my church with events and I always enjoyed being involved. Every Sunday I would go to Sunday school and go to church camps, retreats, and even confirmation class to learn about Jesus but I didn’t really understand the Gospel and all Jesus has done for me, fully. I always knew God was with me but didn’t understand in full all He’s done for me and all believers. It wasn’t until recently (2020) that I grew a better understanding! I now go to a church called Park Valley where the pastor’s sermons often hit me deep and help me to understand so much more then I have at past churches ! The church and the people are all welcoming which helps too.

Through life’s ups and downs, I’ve always known deep down that God has been by my side. In December 2008, my friend passed away when we were both 16 and I constantly asked why God? After His passing I started to struggle with depression and my faith wavered a little. It was hard hearing He’d want you happy and to live a happy life when I wanted him here. Then in 2019, something happened with me at the daycare I was working at and even though it was my fault, it was an emotional roller coaster for a year or so after. I had a major issue with struggling to forgive myself for what happened. All I can say now is, I learned from my mistakes and know that I am forgiven because God has forgiven me and God has blessed me with an awesome support group.

On October 15th of 2020 the Bible study I’m in started “Rooted “ and I have learned so much from it and the girls that go! With help from the study and my pastors sermon on November 15th about baptism I’ve decided to be baptized at my church since now I have a better understanding of everything God has done. I’m closing with:

“When you go through deep waters I will be with you." Isaiah 43:2

you are where God wants you to be at this moment. Every experience is part of his divine plan.

Do you struggle with “not doing enough” as a Christian? At the beginning of the new year (2021), I read a book called “Disease to Please”. This particular book was given to me by a friend who cared fo
